“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”- Mohandas Gandhi
As many of you know, I will soon be graduating with my bachelors in Philosophy and Non-Profit Administration. My studies and research within the field of philosophy have focused on issues of injustice, conflict-resolution, and peace around the world, especially within the Middle East. Advocating for peace and human rights is not simply a hobby of mine; it is my passion in life. Next month, I will be traveling to the Middle East to witness and experience first-hand the injustice I have studied and continue to advocate against. I invite you to join me, to help make this happen.
From July 16th- 29th, I will be participating in an Interfaith Delegation of 24 American Christians, Muslims, and Jews traveling to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, also known as the West Bank. The delegation is sponsored by Interfaith Peace Builders and the American Friends Service Committee; for details on these non-profit organizations and the trip please check out www.ifpb.org.
The delegation will explore current Israeli and Palestinian realities and issues relevant to young people in the region, including efforts to educate and empower future generations working towards a just resolution to the current conflict. Our itinerary will feature meetings with leaders of civil society groups, grassroots organizers, Palestinian and Israeli youth, religious leaders and more.
I am traveling with the intention to speak with the people, know their stories, witness their pain and success, and come back to Omaha, NE and begin in whatever way I can to make a difference. It is essential to me to bear witness to the humanitarian crisis; the reports, papers, and books I study only give a small glimpse of the true story. It is the human story in Palestine and Israel that I can only learn by being there myself. When I return from the delegation, it will be the people I meet, the stories I hear, and the reality I witness that will drive my steadfast commitment for peace and the protection of human rights.
I need to raise over $4,500 to participate in this delegation. Your donation will help me purchase my plane ticket and the other essential program fees. I am paying for as much of the trip as I am able, but I need your donations to cover the rest.
I’ll be sending out emails describing our delegation activities while there, please let me know if you are interested and I’ll add you to the list. In addition to sending emails, I will be blogging about my experience before and after my trip at www.KatieHuerter.com When I return, I would love to either invite you to a presentation on my experiences or to present one for you and your community.
Please consider making a contribution of $25 and above, and expect a postcard for my deep gratitude. To make a donation, please click on the "Donation" button located at the top-right corner of the page.
If you have any questions about the trip, please feel free to send me an email.
B’shalom v ahava, (with peace and love)
Kathleen (Katie) Huerter
